A little bit about the ingredients
Bilberry – anthocyanosides (an antioxidant) in Bilberries can help improve vision by strengthen capillaries and thinning blood and protecting the retina. They can also be used to treat chronic venous insufficiency, a condition where the valves in the veins are damaged. Bilberry is also known to be helpful in reducing chronic inflammation and thus being beneficial for arthritis, gout and other such inflammatory conditions.

Blueberry – The Flavonoids in Blueberries are beneficial for the brain and the nervous system. They can help improve memory, learning and cognitive function, they have been extensively researched and have shown to prevent object memory loss in animals. It would be good to introduce this to the diet of those with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Furthermore they are high in Vitamin C which helps maintain a health immune system.

Blackberry – As with a lot of berries Blackberries are also high in vitamin C. Also like many other berries they are high in antioxidant compounds. They also have anti-cancer properties as they contain anthocyanins and phytochemicals which prevent tumour growth.

Raspberry – Raspberries contain alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin. These antioxidants prevent oxidative stress. Raspberries can help with reducing the risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Cranberry – Cranberries are known to prevent UTI’s (Urinary Tract Infections), the high amounts of proanthocyanidins in cranberries create a sort of shield that prevents certain bacteria from clinging on to the urinary tract walls. The same proanthocyanidins prevent bacteria from clinging to teeth. Cranberries are also high in Vitamin C and E.

Tart cherry – Tart Cherries are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. The anthocyanin flavonoid has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Research also shows that Tart Cherries improve muscle recovery by reducing oxidative stress. Tart cherries can be useful to incorporate into a post workout drink to reduce muscle soreness and improve muscle recover.

Many berries contain the flavonoid Anthocyanins which prevent the buildup of plaque in blood vessels and therefore are good for cardiovascular diseases.
